posted 10/27/2009 We are notifying you that registration for the 2010 Spring season will be opening up on November 1
st via our web site (
www.wellesleylittleleague.org). In addition, we would like to take the time now to make you aware of some changes to our spring leagues so you will have the opportunity to discuss them with your child prior to registering. Should you have any questions about these changes, please do not hesitate to contact anyone associated with Wellesley Little League listed at the bottom of this communication with their e-mail address.
Changes to Summer Baseball for U12 and Younger: Little League International rules state that all players on a Williamsport roster (the Little League World Series tournament) must be a registered player in their town's spring baseball program and participate in at least 60% of all games. This requirement has been extended to anyone interested in participating in a summer travel program played on a Little League-sized field (i.e. to play on the 2010 Summer Travel Team for U8-U12, a player must have been registered for the WLL Spring 2010 Baseball Program and have participated in at least 60% of the games).
13-15 Year Old Leagues: In 2009, an intermediate diamond (50 foot rubber and 70 foot base paths) was introduced for 13 year olds. No changes have been introduced in 2010 for the 13-15 year old age groups.
Changes to the American League (AL): This league has traditionally been restricted to 10 – 12 year olds from 5th – 7th grade (age as of May 1st each year determines age eligibility under Little League International rules). This year we are allowing any child 10 years of age as of May 1, 2010 from 4th grade to also tryout for the AL. If they tryout and are not drafted into the AL, they will be placed on a team in the National League or NL (same process as in years past for 5th graders trying out and not being drafted into the AL). If you are interested in this option for your child, please indicate this when registering. There will be a checkbox for this option in the registration program. If you check this box your child will be notified of his/her tryout date/time. We anticipate that only the most qualified 10 year old 4th graders will tryout (although all are welcome) and the majority of this group will not be drafted into the AL due to the high level of play in the AL.
It is important to remember that minimum playing time in the AL is 3 innings and 1 at bat per game which is why many 5th and 6th graders opt to play in the NL where their abilities are more in-line with that league’s level of play.
Also, 5:30pm games will be limited to Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday but 7:30pm games under the lights will be allowed any night of the week. Sunday at 5:30pm will be make-up games due to rainouts. For additional information on the league and expectations of the players in this league, please go to our web site (
www.wellesleylittleleague.org).
Changes to the National League (NL): This league has traditionally been restricted to 4th – 7th graders who are not drafted into the AL of 12 years or younger as of May 1st. This year we are allowing 3rd graders to also tryout for the NL. If they tryout and are not drafted into the NL, they will be placed on a team in the 3rd Grade League. ). If you are interested in this option for your child, please indicate this when registering. There will be a checkbox for this option in the registration program. If you check this box your child will be notified of his/her tryout date/time.
We anticipate that only the most qualified 3rd graders will tryout (although all are welcome) as only one 3rd grader per team will be allowed to play in the NL (16 teams in the NL in 2009).
Some children may really enjoy playing in the NL but we also recognize that some very talented 3rd graders may elect to play with their friends in the 3rd grade league as there will only be one 3rd grader per team in the NL.
Little League approved metal bats will be allowed in 2010.
Also, 5:30pm games will be limited to Monday, Wednesday, and Friday but 7:30pm games under the lights may also occur on Fridays and Sundays. Sunday at 5:30pm will be make-up games due to rainouts.

Changes to the 3rd Grade Baseball: This league is restricted to 3rd graders not playing in the NL (see above). The league will be coach pitch for the first half of the season and kid pitch for the second half of the season. Tryouts are not necessary and all players are assigned to a team.
Little League approved metal bats will be allowed in 2010.

2nd Grade and 1st Grade Baseball: No changes in 2010 compared to 2009. For additional information on the leagues and expectations of the players in these leagues, please go to our web site (

Anyone interested in helping to organize it, please contact George Eldridge at
.
Kindergarten (aka T-Ball) Baseball: No changes in 2010 compared to 2009. For additional information on the leagues and expectations of the players in these leagues, please go to our web site (
